Every Year the children study an artist called Jane Perkins. Jane creates pieces from items usually thrown away. This is a great link with our recycling topic and the children love working together to make their own masterpieces in the same style.
To do this we need lots of ‘bits and bobs’ for example: buttons, beads, broken/old jewellery, odd bits of Lego, small plastic toys/objects, straws etc. If you have any of these things at home that you could contribute towards our work we would be very grateful. It takes many items to create one piece so every little helps! You can also visit Jane Perkin’s website where you can look at her artwork and see the types of items she uses. On there you will also see the masterpiece created by a previous Year 2 class here at St John’s.
Jane Perkins was so impressed with it she displayed it on her website alongside her own creations.
