Welcome

We look forward to welcoming our new families to the Nursery Class at St. John’s Catholic School.

Day to day activities at Saint John’s School are planned around the 7 areas of Learning and Development.

Children are encouraged to develop the following 3 prime areas, first deemed most essential for healthy development and future learning:
1. Communication and language
2. Physical development
3. Personal, social and emotional development

As children grow, these 3 prime areas will help them to develop skills in the following 4 specific areas:
1. Literacy
2. Mathematics
3. Understanding the world
4. Expressive arts & design

In the foundation stage children have the opportunity to experience and investigate a range of materials and equipment both indoors and outside. Each child is encouraged to be independent and self-motivated in a safe and caring environment, which encourages each pupil to explore and be able to have confidence in his/her own judgements and ideas. We aim to promote learning as an enjoyable and challenging experience which children will continue to pursue for the rest of their lives.
